Measure Twice, Cut Once!

Once you've decided on which type of pad you want (grommet, studstrip, or clamp pads) and also know how the pads will be hung (off existing studs on the walls, using hooks or clamps hung off a drop-down ceiling, using hooks or clamps hung off of wall panels), here's how to measure. Check out the measuring section on our website for more details. And as always, contact us for advice with your pad needs. We're happy to help ensure the best fit possible!

Measure for Pads with Grommets

Grommets are the 'holes' in the pads, where the pads are hung from. This type of pad will require exact measurements of grommet hole placements across each panel (wall).

- Width: Measure (in inches) from the left edge to the right edge of each cab panel (wall)

- Length: Start measurements for the length of each pad 1.25 inches above the stud/hook. (The grommet holes sit 1.25 inches below the top of the pad).

NOTES:

- Code compliance: Measure down to the floor, then subtract 4 inches from the bottom

- For hooks: also subtract the height of the hook for the total length needed for each wall

Measure Grommet Spacing

- For each panel, start from the very left, measure to the middle of the 1st stud (or where each hook/clamp will sit)

- Go back to the very left of the panel and measure to the middle of the 2nd stud

- Continue until all studs/hooks are measured

Measure for Pads with Studstrip

The studstrip has slots, like button holes every 1" so that wherever the stud or hook is, a slot will fit. No grommet or additional measures are needed. These pads are more durable versus the grommet pads, as the strip going across the top is made of a parachute-like, corded material.

- Width: Measure (in inches) from the left edge to the right edge of each panel

- Length: Measure (in inches) from the top of the ceiling/wall panel or ceiling to the floor

NOTES:

- Code compliance: Measure down to the floor, then subtract 4 inches from the bottom

- Hooks: also subtract the height of the hook for total length needed for each wall

Measure for Pads with Clamps (no grommets, no studstrip)

The pads to use with clamps are ‘plain’ pads with no grommet holes nor studstrip. Once you’ve decided on which clamp you need (see our hardware inventory), the length of the clamp should be subtracted from the length of the pad.

- Width: Measure (in inches) from the left edge to the right edge of each panel

- Length: Measure (in inches) from the top of the ceiling/wall panel or ceiling to floor

NOTES:

- Code compliance: Measure down to the floor, then subtract 4 inches from the bottom

- Clamps: also subtract the height of the clamp for total length needed for each wall

Measuring Cutouts

Cutouts are used where there’s a button panel, handrails or other areas of the wall to leave exposed. Most of the wall will be protected with the pad, except for the area(s) of the ‘cutout’.

From the same height used to measure for the pad:

Top: from stud/hook/clamp to the top edge of the cutout

Bottom: from stud/hook/clamp to the bottom edge of the cutout

Left: left edge of the wall to the left side of the cutout

Right: left edge of the wall to the right side of the cutout
